When we embrace imperfection, we release ourselves from many burdens that make our lives more valuable, realistic, and fun. ## Am I convinced and why? I generally agree with everything in this book. I'm not finding it explosively new, but that might be because Bréne Brown has become such a core part of the way I see the world, that I don't even notice that this book has much of the origin story in it. She _has_ influenced may of the people I listen to, read, and I value her input. ## Summarize the argument > How much we know and understand ourselves is critically important, but there is something that is even more essential to living a wholehearted life: loving ourselves. ([Location 189](https://readwise.io/to_kindle?action=open&asin=B00BS03LL6&location=189)). Full, true, deep self-love releases us from the shackles of what we think we are supposed to be, allowing ourselves to become wholehearted in our living. ## What is the other side of the argument? We can never really be free of the social context that we interface with, do we really want that? That would be becoming a hermit, or cut off from society. We can, however, rebalance those influences so that we can focus ourselves on becoming wholehearted _within our context._ ## What else do I wonder about? What are the ways I'm reducing my wholeheartedness unintentionally? Where are my heart-releasing constraints? Where are my blind-spots? When I make these tradeoffs, I want them to be on purpose? What have I just fallen in to? ## Action Look through these notes and highlights when I have annual reviews so that I can consider the big ideas when [[Developing Values]]. ## When do I want to stumble across this?
