Many of our modern ailments, from autoimmune diseases to obesity and anxiety, come from the way we have engineered our lives to be comfortable. ## Am I convinced and why? While there invariably is an element of truth to the global idea that being too comfortable doesn't provide us the opportunity to overcome hardship, tone muscles, etc. I see this story as a continuous essay of confirmation bias to his philosophy. ## Summarize the argument Since we don't eat dirt, our immune system is over active. Since we don't face death, our anxiety system is over active. Since we don't face starvation ands challenge, our bodies are getting unhealthy. ## What is the other side of the argument? Comfort and convenience, seeking an easier life, is animal nature. The privilege of facing hardship by choice, and the tradeoffs with these approaches, need to be considered. For a certain reader, the philosophy and arguments "make sense," and I do think it is good to get out and have some adventures. Too many people, however, _are_ facing daily hardship, food insecurity, persecution, abuse, etc. I personally think he did not pay enough attention to the [[modern ancient mismatch]] and the issues of [[Scarcity Mindset]] in a time of abundance. ## What else do I wonder about? How do you create the right balance, distribution of resources, and [[psychological safety]], so these ideas can be justly shared across a society. Who needs support and who needs hardship is a tough question to answer. ## Action When I go to Las Vegas, do the trad multi-pitch. ## When do I want to stumble across this? #on/psychologicalsafety #on/anxiety ## Source: Easter, M.
