topic: [[Thinking]] created: 2023-03-13 *Figuring out the conditions that will make something likely is more successful than trying to make something happen.* This reminds me of complex adaptive [[Systems]] being non-linear and unpredictable. This means that in order to change a system you cannot just change elements, you must change the relationships and the purpose. Want to stay married? Focus on the marriage success, not winning battles. Focus on [[Listening to Understand]] not [[listening to win]]. It's kind of like raising children or investing, you cannot guarantee outcomes but you can create conditions. There are lots of [[externalities]] that impact you more than you like to be aware of. To create the conditions focus on the following approaches (Forbes) - Identify the ideal future state - Eschew irrelevant criteria - Identify and choose [[Forming Habits]] that support [[Future Lon]] not past self. Focusing on the conditions allows you to apply [[right effort]] and let go of the desire to control the outcome. Questions to ask: 1.     What have I achieved that I am proud of? How did I organize myself and my environment that supported me? Who was important to my success?   2.     What work gives me joy – the experience of being happily absorbed in what I’m doing? 3.     Does the space where I work help me imagine my ideal future?  4.     Who do I deeply admire? What can I learn about how they created the conditions to achieve their goals?  5.     Am I using enough of my time on activities that get me closer to my ideal future? (Forbes) ##### What would the opposite argument be? Since we cannot impact the outcomes as much as we want, why even bother with the effort? Just focus on presence, [[🐓 Idea Farm/Deadfall/For myself only/Readwise/Books/Trying Not to Try]] will get you as far as you can go. tags: #note/idea | #on/systems | #on/performance | #on/perfection ##### Sources: [Forbes: How to create the conditions to optimize your success](https://www.forbes.com/sites/constancedierickx/2020/07/23/how-to-create-the-conditions-to-optimize-your-success/?sh=3a2113d8565b) Accessed 2023-03-11 ![[How To Create The Conditions To Optimize Your Success.pdf]]
