topic: [[People Growing]] people: #people/karienhenrico created: 2023-02-07 *Having a wholesome realistic view of one's life and all of the complexities better leads to wellness.* This reminds me of the importance of [[Identifying Reality]], which is actually that lots of the signals we get perturb us from being able to see the world the way it actually is. Which for many of us is less cruel than we imagine. It's kind of like using [[Appreciative Inquiry]] to balance the negative ideas we come across, since [[appreciation balances our negative tilt]]. Wellness is a way of considering our whole selves in relation to our world. What does our job do for us in terms of what it enables, not just what it costs? What messages are unnecessarily negatively balanced? Is there a way we can better balance those messages? This matters because in reality Americans in 2023 are more fortunate than most people who have ever lived in the history of the world, if we can just figure out [[what gets in the way?]] of seeing the world like that? ##### What would the opposite argument be? There are lots of real imperfections in the world, lots of ways that this stance comes from the view of a white, cis, male, privileged view of the world. %% tags: #note/idea | #on/wellness | #on/realism | #on/reaction %% ##### Sources: Henrico, K.
