*Cal's few tips for writing articles.*
- Think first -> [[first seek to understand]], thinking on foot before thinking on paper
- Use a structure **
- avoid colloquial tone, stay away from rhetorical questions, side stories, etc.
- show don't tell-> [[wisdom can't be told]], but [[We see the world in stories]] so use stories to illustrate points
- don't write just to write, finish the idea as soon as possible
## Structure:
- start with an illustrative example
- add the thesis, how it relates to the example
- elaborate the thesis with quotes (showing not telling) statistics and examples
- call back to the idea
This reminds me of [[It’s a Story, Not a Study Writing an Effective Research Paper]]
It's kind of like [[We see the world in stories]], [[we don't see then name, we name then see]], the initial story builds the tension that is relieved by the thesis
These are advice from an expert author
This matters to me because as I become a writer, this is an important framework or [[Mental Model]] for writing that will help my arguments be listened to.
### What would the opposite argument be?
There is room for freeform, learning, experimenting.
