topic: [[Deciding]] people: #people/albertbandura created: 2024-01-09 *Can I actually do things to promote and take action towards my own goals?* ##### what is it? Self-efficacy is "an individual's belief in their capacity to act in the ways necessary to reach specific goals." put forth by Albert Bandura ( of [[social-cognitive learning theory]] as well). - intentionality - forethought - self-regulation / [[Self-Regulated Learning]] - self-reflection and correction ##### why does it matter? If we have an internal [[locus of control]], we can believe that we can impact our own existence. If we have an external locus of control, we believe that we do not. When we believe in self-efficacy, we take steps to change our experience, and these can exist in a virtuous cycle. ##### What would the opposite argument be? I am in a complex social web, can I even have my own goals? How are they balanced with the goals of the context and the team? tags: #note/idea | #on/wellness ##### Sources: Bandura, A. (1993).
