*Freedom from want is an ultimate form of freedom, which is achievable in modern society if we allow ourselves to loose the influence of desire and attachment.*
This reminds me of [[🐓 Idea Farm/6 Long Form Sources/Build The Life You Want|Build The Life You Want]], and the ideas that power, money, fame and pleasure our drivers for our addictions. When we allow those drivers to be unfettered, we loose the freedom we have worked so hard to achieve.
It's kind of like the [[hedonic treadmill]] and how we cannot ever achieve enough to be happy if our happiness depends on achievement.
Psychological freedom is as ancient a concept as the ascetic actions and mindset of the buddha, it is the idea that we can be free only without attachment.
The greatest gift we can give ourselves is the feeling of [[enough]].
##### What would the opposite argument be?
It is normal and healthy to want. Wanting is a driver for increasing our capacity, our creative output, our participation in the world and the system. Wanting to get that promotion, get that raise, be known, etc. has an always will be drivers for our output.
_The dose makes the poison: how can we harness the positive influence of our desires while not being subjugated by them?_
