topic: [[Thinking]] people: #people/chrisferrie created: 2024-01-01 *When it's not the idea that's wrong, it's the question being asked.* This reminds me of [[the answers you get come from the questions you ask]], make sure you spend time asking the right question or you will get answers that are [[not even wrong]] It's kind of like [[ways of knowing]]. "Not even wrong" is a way of describing thinking that is not asking the right question, it's a way of getting out of the false dichotomy of information. Good example would be the question: "is the earth round?" - the difference between describing the earth as a sphere (technically not correct) and as an oblate spheroid (correct) is not the same as describing the earth as a disc, which is [[not even wrong]]. why does it matter? - It is valuable to seek meaningful descriptions between states of incorrect. Some are reasonably close to correct such that the difference is generally not important, others are so incorrect as to create all kinds of problems: - In the case of the flat earth, what is up with Australia, flying around the world, how vision works over the ocean, all of these must be described with hand-waving explanations that can be dismissed with [[Hitchen's Razor]].) ##### What would the opposite argument be?
