[[Learning]] tags:: #on/self dates:: 2022-03-27 *I am in control of my experience.* This reminds me of how [[Mindsets change our mind and our future]]. This is a [[Mental Model]] for [[Identifying Reality]] about what I do and do not control. This helps me avoid [[Power Leaks]] of focusing on the outcome, which often has elements outside of my control (was it damp when I slipped? what can i learn from that? What did I control?) This reminds me of It's kind of like how my mental state controls the outcome, it is the source of how I decide if an experience was terrible or amazing. It's kind of like how "experience is the gift life hands you right after you needed it." Internal Locus of Control is the idea and sense that the person controls their fate, not that their fate is controlled by outside influences. Behind [[motivation]], this is the second most powerful indicator of successful [[Learning]]. Verbiage that helps develop an internal locus of control is "when you ... you are successful," as opposed to "you are ..." type speaking which places in the locus of control outside the person. It provides an [[Forming Identity]] that is fixed as opposed to developmental and focusing on [[Mindset]] This matters to me because it helps me avoid learned helplessness. I haven't learned, "yet" how to climb 5.12. In [[Man’s Search For Meaning]] Victor Frankel surmises that it is not the world that creates the misery, it is the interpretation of the world. ### What would the opposite argument be?
