*We have preferences, but not styles, for our learning. There is only one style of learning, [[active learning]].*
##### what is it?
- Learning preferences vs learning styles is the key idea here
- Learning styles do not exist, all learning takes work, and work is [[active learning]], that can be mental work or physical work.
##### why does it matter?
- Active learning is required for making an idea your own, for smashing it into what you already know, and for making connections. All learning strategies require this type of action.
- People enjoy things that are not always good for them, for example, you might enjoy listening to podcasts, it doesn't mean you are learning much.
##### This reminds me of
[[Barbells make you stronger]].
[[When you're sweating, you're learning!]]
##### What would the opposite argument be?
Learning styles guide you to your action, since certain types of activities are more or less pleasant, you're likely to spend more time in them. This is not necessarily bad, however, don't confuse preferences with styles.
