%% [[Creating]] Lon Setnik dates:: 2022-12-01 %% *Creating conditions in the setting of complexity is a better way of thinking about making change.* This reminds me of [[you can't only do one thing]], the [[second order effects]] are often stronger over time and cannot be predicted. It's kind of like [[what are the conditions]] instead of what is the outcome, and [[right effort]] instead of judging by the outcome. The idea of dealing with complexity is the importance of [[epistemic humility]] in the quest to understand anything. _There are two kinds of problems, complex and complicated. Complex are non-linear, unpredictable, focus on conditions. Complicated are linear, lots of step, can be broken down. Resist the urge to turn complex problems into complicated ones._ This matters because we often are subject to so many [[cognitive biases]], unfairly blaming or crediting ourselves looking backwards and illegitimately predicting looking forwards. ### What would the opposite argument be? [[Everything should be make as simple as possible, but not simpler]] %% tags: #note/idea | #on/change | #on/knowledge | #on/systems %% ## Sources: [[Thinking in Systems]]
