It's kind of like how in [[Antifragility]], you put yourself in a position of winning no matter what happens. In this case, if you have assessed the risk, and are ok with the consequences, you can purposefully climb until you fall, and if you don't happen to fall one time, well then you've learned how to climb the crux and you can make it. It's kind of like my old saying about skiing which is "If you're not falling, you're not trying hard enough." This reminds me of [[Fear-setting]], what's the worst that could happen? [[climb till you fall]] is a motto I can use at the gym and on the rock. That way I know that I am doing things I am not yet capable of. ![[DSC00079.jpg]] This matters because growth happens at the edges, once you are in the zone of proximal development, you cannot guarantee success. For goodness sake, I'm in Italy right now, and don;t speak Italian. I have to be okay with the embarrassment of "Io non parlo italiano, tu parli inglese?" or whatever it is for me to be ok. I have to be ok with traveling during COVID, or I'll be stuck in my house. I have to be okay with failing at IMSH, or I won't try to give a presentation at IMSH. I have to be okay with not being able to do value creation work OVER AND OVER to be able to get better at PKM. ![[Lon's PKM Workflow V1.0.jpg]] ### What would the opposite argument be? If you fall, you could get hurt. If you get hurt, you could suffer a setback. If you get a setback, you could fail. When you fail, you could hurt yourself and others. ## Sources: One of Lon's Mottos
