The middle is connected. [[Cognitive Dissonance]] is created when we see the gap between what we think we can do and what we are able to actually do, writing is the way for our brain to see this gap. It's kind of like applying [[Deliberate Practice]] to thinking, because otherwise you cannot get feedback on your thinking. When you keep it inside it is not allowed to emerge. [[Elaboration]] is the process of taking a thought and moving it up the chain of understanding, writing or creating an artifact is a way to do that. This is an idea about how our brains fool us when we are only thinking, but when we use artifacts, we create an [[External Scaffolding]], we externalize our thinking so it can be shared between people and teams to improve [[Teaming by Amy Edmondson]] and team [[Thinking]]. This matters because the difference between [[Producing]] and [[Creating]] is like how [[management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things]]. ### What would the opposite argument be? There is a risk to creating an artifact, in that your thinking is exposed for all to see. ## Sources: MS-HPEd: Artifacts that are new work following completion of the course.
