# Zettelkasten
*Making each idea a linked note creates emergent properties in the note system.*
This reminds me of [[Thinking in Systems]], balancing, reinforcing and emergent phenomena. Here the balancing phenomena is the required time to create a note, this has the impact of forcing a reduction in the stumbling upon new ideas, and requests of the user that they only interact with high-value information. This reminds me of a positive convexity effect of information exposure. Low-level exposure to low-value information is like eating a little junk food every day, it will case a result that is not desired - the unhealthy stress of this information exposure. Instead, seek small amounts of high-value information to expose yourself to, and find the relationships between them that are novel and will show how [[convexity is the lens on non-linearity]] of information exposure.
Zettelkasten is the process of creating atomic notes, linking them, and allowing novel to emerge. This is a process of [[Making Notes Not Taking Notes]], creating time for the[[Value of thinking is in the emergent space]], as opposed to spending time in the copying facts space.
This matters to me because I want to be involved in the creation of novel solutions to problems that can make the world better for patients and healthcare providers.
When it comes to [[Zettelkasten]], writing allows us to create meaning from ideas. Each idea is one concept, and the system uses a slip-box to link the ideas into chains of ideas. Zettelkasten was an approach taken by a german social science author named Niklaus Luhmann who is credited with current popularization given his prolific output.
## The opposite argument
Keep doing what I've always done! I'm pretty dang successful and pretty dang fortunate.
