%% #on/learning | #on/design | #note/statement # Understanding is wise performance %% _The process of being exposed to information and making knowledge, skills, and wisdom._ ## Understanding - creating - applying - connecting - [[Transfer]] ### Goals of _understanding_ are actually to: - uncover _mis-understanding_ - uncover the _lurking_ questions - uncover the _Core Concepts_ of the topic, and what those ideas - ask what all of the required skills that the learner requires to achieve not just the narrow outcomes of the activity but the larger goals that point to the *essential questions* ### [[Evidence of Understanding]] - the ability to apply the knowledge flexible to ambiguous or new situations. - focus first on evidence of understanding the _Core Concepts_ with _essential questions_ - When dealing with skills, the big concepts are _around_ the skills - _when should you use or avoid the skill?_ - _what is the value of this skill?_ - _why does this skill work?_ - Can the person *explain,* meaning attach their own opinions ### Misconceptions - Core concepts are **not basic**. Core concepts are central, and are often *confusing* to novices. They often are counter-intuitive, that's why they are so challenging and important.
