## Understanding
- creating
- applying
- connecting
- [[Transfer]]
### Goals of _understanding_ are actually to:
- uncover _mis-understanding_
- uncover the _lurking_ questions
- uncover the _Core Concepts_ of the topic, and what those ideas
- ask what all of the required skills that the learner requires to achieve not just the narrow outcomes of the activity but the larger goals that point to the *essential questions*
### [[Evidence of Understanding]]
- the ability to apply the knowledge flexible to ambiguous or new situations.
- focus first on evidence of understanding the _Core Concepts_ with _essential questions_
- When dealing with skills, the big concepts are _around_ the skills
- _when should you use or avoid the skill?_
- _what is the value of this skill?_
- _why does this skill work?_
- Can the person *explain,* meaning attach their own opinions
### Misconceptions
- Core concepts are **not basic**. Core concepts are central, and are often *confusing* to novices. They often are counter-intuitive, that's why they are so challenging and important. These are ideas that benefit from deliberate activities designed to aid [[Transfer]], [[Inversion]], [[Writing to learn]], etc.
