topic: [[Writing]] people: #people/helensword created: 2025-01-24 *Identify sub-habits within your overall writing habit.* ##### what is it? BASE stands for: - Behavioral Habits: what is your daily action (or non-action) around writing? - Artisanal Habits: what are your habits around crafting, editing, and learning writing? - Social Habits: what are your habits around working with and among others - Emotional Habits: what feelings are evoked by writing, re-writing, or thinking about writing? ##### why does it matter? There are many ways to be a great writer; there are many styles, systems, and approaches. Beware the one true way, don't chase the system, focus on your own development and learning. Start with your BASE: behaviors (how you go about the writing process), artisanal habits (how you craft and edit), social habits (how you work with others), and emotions (how you feel about writing). ##### This reminds me of By stretching in all four directions with a focus on [[Forming Habits]] that support your strengths being powerful and your weaknesses improving, [[Barbells make you stronger]]. Remember, too much focus on what you do and not enough on why you do it will limit your growth. [[Feeling]] drives action. ##### What would the opposite argument be? Some people just are great writers. There's no getting around it, for some people the calling of word and structure comes with immediate evocative and succinct results. For others, it is a struggle. Your primary language plays a key role in your ability to find the nuance needed for potent writing. tags: #note/idea | #on/writing | #on/writing/process | #on/habit | #on/feeling ##### Sources: Sword, H.
