topic: [[Assessing]] people: #people/louispangaro created: 2025-03-10 *RIME is a developmental assessment framework for medical providers.* ##### what is it? RIME stands for: - Reporter - Interpreter - Manager - Educator RIME demonstrates a developmental framework that can be rapidly and accurately applied. ##### why does it matter? RIME has been demonstrated to be highly accurate and predictive of success in that the lack of progression through from Reporter to Interpreter to Manager demonstrates someone who will struggle as they grow in their career as a resident. ##### This reminds me of [[metacognition]] and [[meta-awareness]], if the learner cannot understand and reach higher orders, they cannot grow. ##### What would the opposite argument be? RIME is open to interpretation. It also appears linear, but is not. RIME is vague and lacks specificity for feedback conversations, it is a blunt instrument, and some learners may be at one level in some areas and another in others. Ie. one could be an educator for suturing but a interpreter for medical data. Finally, a big missing piece is the ethical development of a learner, where is trustworthiness in the RIME scale? tags: #note/idea | #on/assessment | #on/feedback ##### Sources: _#93—RIME--A Chat with Lou Pangaro_.
