The **Nominal Group Technique** is a structured, face-to-face meeting format designed to generate ideas and reach consensus in a single session. It is called “nominal” because initially participants work independently (in name only as a group) before sharing ideas.

##### why does it matter?
NGT is especially useful when the topic is not well defined and benefits from discussion and clarification among experts. It is efficient, collaborative, and an explicit process for [[Consensus Research - Why and How]].
##### What would the opposite argument be?
How can you create something super useful from nothing in just a few hours? There is risk of dominant voices. It requires strong [[facilitating]], which risks falling victim to the whims of the facilitator or the goals of the conference sponsors.
