Meaning is made by way of associations.
Humans are meaning making machines. Our brain anxiously seeks relationships between stimulae that it receives. We create associations even when there are not any.
His story about the experiments where people were told to push a button and try to get the light to turn on as many times. It turns out the light came on randomly, but people sought and were of the associations and rules they created.
So, we create meaning by making associations (same as memory) even when there are no actual associations. The first meaning we create is the one we stick with. We seek confirming evidence in the form of [[confirmation bias]].
This limits [[Learning]]. We can increase learning if we look for disconfirming evidence. If we are always looking for the ways we are wrong we can take a strong [[Growth Mindset]].
