[[Designing Curricula]] Lon Setnik 2022-12-08 #on/curriculumdesign | #on/assessment _Evidence of Understanding_ is required in [[🐓 Idea Farm/Deadfall/For myself only/Readwise/Books/Understanding by Design]] as the second phase. What evidence is acceptable to me that the student _understands_ and doesn't just _know?_ This requires proving [[Transfer]] and demonstrating flexibility with the application of the knowledge outside the original context. [[Elaboration]] would be one way the learner could create with the knowledge. But using the knowledge flexibly to solve other problems different from the original is a key concept here. Often seeking evidence for understanding, the teacher comes across evidence of _misunderstanding_. Evidence of misunderstanding demonstrates the attempt to apply to new and ambiguous situations, which is a stop on the way to understanding. It is critical the teacher _explore_ why this misunderstanding has occurred, reward the effort (although probably not with [[Shine]]). Be cautious of the [[Expert Blind Spot]] #### Question: One way of showing a growing knowledge set, is to create a [[Mind Mapping]], however I'm unsure if this shows the ability to use the information, or instead just a bigger knowledge set. I am thinking this is not evidence of understanding, but it is evidence of knowledge. Sources: [[🐓 Idea Farm/Deadfall/For myself only/Readwise/Books/Understanding by Design]]
