--- topic: [[Leading]] people: #people/joemull created: 2023-01-23 *Don't try to find the perfect person for your job, try to find the perfect job for the people.* This reminds me of [[Learner-Centered]] teaching, the goal of creating the best course experience for the people you have by meeting them where they are. It's kind of like [[management is doing things right, leadership is doing the right things]], when you are a great manager you need to be a great listener. One of the doing things right is eliminating barriers for your people to be successful, [[Eliminate before optimize]]. This is a word invented by Joe Mull, keynote speaker at IMSH2023. It is the combination of employer, loyalty, and humanity. This is the opposite of the idea that people don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad bosses. It matters because if the perception of us as managers is that we need people to be perfect for our jobs, we are going to fail. If we can focus on making the jobs that work for the people, we are likely to keep the people and they are likely to be fulfilled. ##### What would the opposite argument be? We have a job, they applied, they need to do the job. tags: #note/idea | #on/management | #on/performance | #on/wellness ##### Sources: ![[Employalty_key_content_slides_TOOLKIT.pdf]]![[Employalty_Key_Ideas_Summary_Card_DIGITAL.pdf]]
