# Determining Course Value
EGR is evidence of real human response to this course or activity, do people come again of their own volition. NPS is the initial response to likelihood to recommend.
___
**Earned Growth Rate** is the accounting level assessment that is parallel to the **net promoter score** but from this one article is recommended to be a better or at least complimentary question.
___
Earned Growth Rate (EGR) is the growth that is a result of word of mouth or actual current customer choices to return. The measurement is done at the time of signup of new customers, asking how they learned about your product. You also need to consider the re-signup of previous customers. So a calculation might be that 80% of your growth this year was from 50% repeat customers and 30% word of mouth customers. You do not want to include people who you acquired through advertising, sales, etc.
___
Net Promoter Score (NPS) is the question that typically is "likelihood to recommend" such as:
- How likely are you to recommend that a colleague or partner take this course? (Likert 1-10)
---
NPS
Responses:
- Typically 9-10 are considered promoters
- 7-8 are neutral
- 6 and below are detractors
Goal is everyone is 9-10
---
Pair this with an open ended question such as: "If you did not answer 10, would you be willing to tell us what we could do to make this program a 10?
___
### Open Question?
How would this work in a class that is mandatory? Is there a difference
___
