# Design Thinking
*The intersection between viability, feasibility and desirability creates possibility; possibility gets tested and improved when it reacts with complexity to create novel solutions that people want.*

Design thinking is a [[Mindset]] of recognizing that our ideas are just starting places. That their interaction with the real world happens in an area of uncertainty that creates the possibility of new solutions. The idea, test, revise, retest loop has moments of failure and moments of novelty and success. Design thinking is linked to [[Kaizen]] in that it is an acknowledgment that no solution can be correct at it's invention. There is no perfect that doesn't yet exist.
If the perfect solution existed it would already be in place. The

The opposite of this would be the idea that slow, stead progress is the solution to most long-term problems. We shouldn't expect rapid changes to important issues. Building habits has taken a lifetime, and changing them is hard work, so be gentle.
# Design Thinking outline
## Stage 1: Empathize—Research Your Users' Needs
- jobs, pains, gains analysis
## Stage 2: Define—State Your Users' Needs and Problems
- As part of the delphi, identifying what debriefers needed to be comfortable assessing the AIM based on expert guidance (unsure of this one)
## Stage 3: Ideate—Challenge Assumptions and Create Ideas
- Old assumption: rater training happens in person, by experts
- New idea: rater training can be largely asynchronous, distributed, automated, and peer and self-guided
## Stage 4: Prototype—Start to Create Solutions
- MVP on google slides
## Stage 5: Test—Try Your Solutions Out
- first pilot run through
- feedback
- iterate on MVP based on user feedback and gaps
- moved to genial.ly
- Share with CMS colleagues, incorporate more feedback
