The goal is early identification and supportive solutions. The problem may be SUD but is often other issues, that when identified early lead to better outcomes. The goals of the department would be supportive. The process would be to immediately take the resident offline, and have a collegial intervention with a psychiatrist present for support. A drug screen is performed for cause, and the resident is given a break waiting for the results. That gives time for them to recover, and support is provided as well. Many successful residents have been through this process over the years. There is great satisfaction in getting residents through the process and out the other side in better shape. Many letters of recommendation have come from the residency leaders for residents who have been through an intervention. The goal is helping the resident be successful. There is no benefit to waiting to collect more information. When a resident in distress is identified, please reach out to Dan or any other leader (May, Michael, Chiefs, etc). This will help the resident, and keep patients safe. For AICRM on 2022.08.11 Who would you go to if you had a concern about a resident? Seun, our chair, their attending mentors, Terry Morris our QA lead)  I would just make sure they also include: -Dan Saddawi -Konefka is the Program director.  -May Pian-Smith is the Chief of Quality and Safety, so she would also be a safe and confidential person to go to.  Chiefs: - Chris Aiudi: 401-524-8973 - Lukas Matern: 646-715-7814
