The mist rising in beams of sun, the air clearing in vortexes behind my car. What trace do I leave?
In discovering my mantra, I'll need to consider the "leave no trace" ethic. LNT is a interesting goal, is it the right goal? I cannot, by my mere presence, leave no trace. I will compact the soil with every step, acidify where I relieve myself. Do I want to "minimize my impact?" Maybe that is a piece, but being aware of my impact, having my impact be intentional, being "aware of the tradeoffs" may be a more balanced and nuance perspective.
_When_ should I be leaving no trace, _when_ should I be trying to amplify my impact?
When to minimize my trace
- when doing one thing has outsized impact on the space around me and on others
- I have less impact with an electric car driven slowly and carefully than a 480 hp ICE driven fast
- when doing one thing is harder to undo
- The choice of drink, I need to balance my impact through choices in the morning, using a reused container, hot water, decaf tea or herbs from the garden, with oatmilk or no milk, is much less impact than going to starbucks for coffee and getting a takeout
Actions:
Switch to 1 cup of coffee per day, reusable container, then garden herbs with hot water
So, zooming in and out, what does this have to do with mantra?
"Leave the right trace"
Chai and Panta rhei
